New Play: Tom Molineaux – 7pm, 19 May at Darwen Library Theatre

Based on an extraordinary true story, Tom Molineaux charts the rise and fall of one of the greatest heroes of bare knuckle boxing.

Born a slave, Tom Molineaux boxes his way to freedom. In 1810 he arrives in London where his flamboyant style wins him fame, and the friendship of prizefight writer Pierce Egan.  Molineaux battles against poverty and prejudice to face the English champion Tom Cribb. Huge crowds gather to watch. Can the American overcome the odds to win? And what will it mean if a freed slave becomes the champion in a sport that defines the national character?

Action Factory staff and volunteers are collaborating with the writer, Tom Green, to work with local diverse communities and connect with local boxing clubs.  Tom Green has also contributed workshops to the Juniors and Diversity Clubs for our arts programme at Blackburn Youth Zone.  Tickets for the Darwen Library Theatre performance are free and can be booked via Eventbrite.  Contact Kerry for more details, or book tickets here.
