Creating a Mural with Darwen Youth Centre

We are really pleased to be working with our old friend and colleague Lucy Wray on a Living Graffiti wall at Darwen Youth Centre, Knott Street. The design will be visible from the main road and will incorporate young people’s ideas/messages about nature and environment and their relationship to it. Blackburn with Darwen Young People’s Services and Lancashire Wildlife Trust are working together on the project, which has been funded via the Social Action Fund. The Wildlife Trust are organising pieces of ‘living wall’, where sections will grow, as well as raised beds for plants and additional items such as bird boxes to be created with the young people and fixed to the wall.

We’ve been into three sessions, talking about ideas; painting a background image; then trying stencils to build up design ideas. Now Lucy is working hard on designs to show the group before painting the final piece on 23 and 24 August. Looking forward to the final piece!
