Burst of Sun at Lilford Park

Action Factory has been involved with a health and arts project with partners 5 Boroughs NHS Foundation and Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles and The Friends of Lilford Park. This culminates with a sculpture which will be launched on Friday 14th October at 1pm to 3pm.

This will offer an opportunity to learn about and celebrate the creative process behind the project and thank those involved. You will also have the opportunity to make suggestions for future arts and health developments.

The sculpture will be called : Standing Tall — a sculpture in the form of 3 sunflowers designed by metal artist Salina Somalya for Action Factory. The shape and form of the artwork wree inspired by working with people on Lakeside and Cavendish Units at Leigh Infirmary duing 2015 to 2016. Through creative sessions we identified keywords relating to mental health, stigma and recovery. These are carved into stems, leaves and roots.

The sunflowers fit well in the park setting, a splash of colour. More importantly, the sunflowers area intended as a positive image to support people in crises to stand tall and encourage steps into recovery.
