1973: Bowie in Blackburn

On Saturday 8 July, members of our Darwen Youth Theatre; Story Makers and guests from our drama project at Blackburn Youth Zone performed together at King George’s Hall, Blackburn. This was as part of an event involving over 750 people in celebrating 1973; the year David Bowie, Queen, The Sweet, Status Quo and Slade came to Blackburn. The project involved our performers in reading through and animating extracts of interviews about the concerts and the excitement and emotion felt by all involved. Several of us also took part in rehearsing and performing a dance piece for a ‘Flash Mob’ working with Gillian Burns

Thank you to the Bureau, Dovetail, King George’s Hall and all those who helped create a very memorable celebration. Photography: Jan Chlebik
